Teaching Style

I specialize in piano lessons for all ages from beginner to advanced levels, and am equipped to teach students a range of performance skills from contemporary music and improvisation, to classical technique. I believe students should be introduced to a wide variety of musical genres and my teaching reflects that by covering the following:

  • Music Theory applied to the current genre of music/songs a student is learning

  • Popular chord progressions

  • Jazz and blues

  • Improvisation

  • Aural skills/ear training

  • Music composition

  • Technique

  • Artistry

  • Sight-reading

  • Duets and skills for playing with others

In between our scheduled piano lessons students also have access to online resources through my student portal including:

  • games and activities

  • a lending library full of extra piano books and sheet music to borrow

  • access to assignments

  • practice notes to improve skills

  • Applicable worksheets

  • Video lesson content

  • Audio tracks for practicing duets and improv

  • And more

Performance Opportunities

I typically hold recital concerts twice a year (once each semester) in a relaxed type of environment so students can build confidence while developing their performing skills.

Piano Practice

Learning the piano takes muscle memory, and to develop that students need frequent practice. Although my focus is that each student has fun and enjoys what they’re learning while they play, students will get the most out of our lessons if there is routine practice.

My practice recommendations always keep the student’s goals and needs in mind, and I will always cover the best ways to practice to learn each song quickly and efficiently.

The better quality the instrument, the better quality the practice will be. Although you don’t need the best piano, students will at least need a weighted keyboard to get started with lessons and practice. Tuition covers the rest.

Location

I offer online lessons or student in-home lessons in Austin and Pflugerville surrounding areas.
